# unsupported_document_format — Shorty API error

## When it happens

A web-page summary (`source: "url"`) was requested for a link whose path ends in `.doc`, a legacy Word file. The web-page summarizer reads HTML pages, not document files, so no job is started and nothing counts against your quota.

## How to fix it

Send the text of the document as `source: "text"` instead, or save the file as .docx and summarize it with the Word Summarizer in the Shorty app. The `detail` says what to do in words you can show your user.
