Highlights
Don Juan and Namongan, a couple from Nalbuan, are introduced. When Namongan is about to give birth, Don Juan is killed by Igorots. Namongan gives birth to Lam-ang, who miraculously speaks immediately and chooses his own name and godparents. Upon learning of his father's death, Lam-ang vows revenge.
At nine months old, Lam-ang, already strong and large, sets out to avenge his father. He is accompanied by a magical rooster and dog, and carries a talisman. He journeys to the land of the Igorots, where he finds his father's head. Lam-ang challenges the Igorots, and when they attack him, he remains unharmed. He then slays them all with his magical sword.
After his victory, Lam-ang returns to Nalbuan and bathes in the Urayan River. His dirt causes all the fish to die and eels and crabs to crawl ashore. After resting, Lam-ang decides to pursue Ines Kannoyan in Kalanutan.
On his way to Kalanutan, Lam-ang encounters and defeats the giant Sumarang. Upon arriving at Ines's home, his magical dog and rooster announce his presence and intentions. Ines's parents agree to the marriage if Lam-ang can provide a dowry equal to their wealth. Lam-ang sends two shipfuls of gold, satisfying them, and he and Ines are married.
After their wedding, Lam-ang must fulfill a custom by catching rarang fish. He foresees his death by a berkah shark. He instructs Ines on what to do if this happens. Lam-ang dives into the sea and is indeed eaten by the berkah shark. Ines follows his instructions, covering his bones with her skirt. With the help of the magical rooster and dog, Lam-ang is resurrected. Lam-ang and Ines embrace, along with their animal companions, and live happily ever after.
