Highlights
Don Juan and Namongan live in La Union. While Namongan is pregnant, Igorots attack their village, killing many of Don Juan's men. Don Juan retaliates but never comes back, rumored to have been beheaded by the Igorots. Namongan gives birth to a boy who immediately speaks, names himself Lam-ang, and chooses his godfather. Upon learning of his father's fate, Lam-ang vows revenge.
At nine months old, Lam-ang is already strong and well-built. Against his mother's wishes, he sets out to find his father's body, accompanied by a magical rooster (tangabaran) and a magical dog. He uses a banana tree talisman to easily traverse mountains and plains. He dreams of the Igorots dancing around his father's severed head. Upon reaching the Igorot territory, he sees his father's head on a bamboo pole.
Lam-ang challenges the Igorots, who warn him to leave. He shouts, his voice echoing through the mountains, drawing many Igorots. They unleash a shower of spears, but Lam-ang remains unharmed. When they run out of spears, Lam-ang draws his long sword and slaughters his enemies as if cutting down banana trees.
Lam-ang returns to Narbuan and bathes in the Burayan river with the help of tribal maidens. The grime from his body kills the fish and drives crabs and eels ashore. After resting, Lam-ang journeys to Kalanutian to court Ines Kannoyan, accompanied by his magical rooster and dog. On the way, he encounters the giant Sumarang and blows him away to the seventh mountain.
At Ines's home, Lam-ang is initially unnoticed due to the crowd. His magical dog barks, causing the house to collapse, and his magical rooster crows, making it stand back up. This draws attention to Lam-ang. His animals explain his intention to marry Ines. Ines's parents agree, provided Lam-ang can present a dowry. Lam-ang sends two ships filled with gold, pleasing Ines's parents.
Lam-ang and Ines have a grand wedding. Following tradition, Lam-ang goes fishing for 'rarang' fish. He foresees being eaten by a berkahan shark and instructs Ines on what to do. He dives into the sea and is indeed eaten. Ines follows his instructions, having his bones retrieved from the sea. She covers them with her skirt, and the magical rooster and dog circle them. The rooster crows, the dog howls, and Lam-ang's bones reanimate, bringing him back to life as if waking from a deep sleep. Lam-ang and Ines embrace, along with his animals, and live happily ever after.
