Captain Marvel and the Rescue of Tony Stark

Carol Danvers returns to Earth after eight years to assist Nick Fury. Despite her busy schedule helping the Skrulls, she agrees to a mission to find Tony Stark, who has been missing since a confrontation with Captain America. Upon locating him in Siberia, she discovers Stark gravely injured, his armor shattered, and his chest device destroyed.

Carol transports the dying Stark to his tower in New York. There, she meets Pepper Potts and the medical team led by Dr. Cho. With Stark's heart failing, Fury authorizes the use of the 'Extremis Virus 3.0'—a dangerous, experimental formula designed to heal injuries instantly—as a last-ditch effort to save him.

The medical team prepares to inject Stark with the virus and re-integrate the Arc-reactor into his body to sustain his life. As Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan head off to manage the company's board, Carol commits to staying with Fury to assist with the aftermath of the Avengers' collapse and the recovery of Tony Stark.
