Summary
Highlights
Every building with plumbing fixtures intended for habitation or use on premises adjacent to a street, alley, or easement with a public sewer must be connected to that sewer system.
Plumbers shall not act unprofessionally and should only demand remuneration as per original charges, with exceptions for additional services not covered in the basic contract.
Additions, alterations, or repairs to existing plumbing systems are permissible provided they conform to the requirements for a new plumbing system.
No fitting with more than one inlet at the same level shall be used unless designed to prevent discharge from one inlet readily entering another. Horizontal drainage lines connecting to other horizontal lines must enter through specific approved methods, excluding sanitary tees.
Wastes detrimental to the public sewer system or sewage treatment plant, particularly industrial wastes, must be treated and disposed of as directed by the administrative authority.
It is unlawful to conceal cracks, holes, or imperfections in materials by welding, brazing, soldering, or using paints, waxes, tars, or other sealing agents.
The drainage system of each new building or new work in an existing building must be separate and independent from other buildings, ideally with an independent connection to a public or private sewer.
Various pipe types have specific support requirements: iron pipe size (IPS) screwed pipe every other story, copper tubing at 1.20m intervals, horizontal plastic pipes every 1 meter, and lead pipes requiring stiff metal or wooden backing for their entire length.
Horizontal pipes must be supported at sufficiently close intervals to maintain alignment and prevent sagging. Specific intervals are 3m for IPS piping 19mm and smaller, 3.6m for IPS piping 25mm and larger, 1.8m for copper tubing 38mm and smaller, and 3m for copper tubing 51mm and larger.
Approved stainless steel bands with neoprene gaskets are acceptable for jointing hubless cast iron soil pipes.
