Highlights
Gloria, dealing with alcoholism, is left by her boyfriend Tim due to her party lifestyle. She moves back to her childhood home and reconnects with an old friend, Oscar, who offers her a job at his bar. Soon after, a giant monster appears in Korea, making movements identical to Gloria's, leading her to believe she controls it unconsciously.
Gloria tests her control over the monster by making it appear and dance in Korea, which results in helicopters attacking it. She later learns that Oscar also controls a giant robot. She tries to send a message of apology through the monster, but Oscar begins to show a more erratic and obsessive behavior regarding his robot.
Oscar becomes increasingly jealous of Gloria's attention towards Joel and manipulates her, threatening to destroy Korea if she doesn't cooperate. Gloria recalls a childhood memory where both she and Oscar were struck by lightning while playing with monster toys, suggesting this event is the origin of their connection to the giant creatures.
Realizing Oscar's obsession stems from a desire for significance, Gloria decides to leave with Tim. However, Oscar pursues her, leading to a confrontation where he threatens to destroy Korea daily if she leaves. She refuses to be manipulated and decides to leave the town.
Gloria travels to Korea to confront Oscar directly. By being in Korea, her monster appears in front of Oscar, allowing her to physically confront him through her giant counterpart. She defeats Oscar by throwing his robot far away, saving Korea and finding a new purpose.
