Summary
Highlights
This module will focus on sharing knowledge and experiences with colleagues not taking the course, and collaborating with other professionals. The video will define 'cascading', explain its inclusion in the course, highlight its benefits, and outline how to engage in cascading activities.
Cascading refers to something falling or rushing forward in large quantities. In education, it describes sharing knowledge and experience among professionals, like teachers who've attended a professional development event teaching their new learnings to other teachers.
There are two main reasons: increasing the course's impact by sharing knowledge with those who couldn't join the program, and 'double your learning'. As a Roman proverb states, 'when we teach, we learn'. Explaining new concepts to others deepens one's own understanding and helps identify areas for clarification.
Cascading can take various forms, mirroring teacher learning in formal and informal contexts. Future weeks will explore different cascading options to help participants select suitable ones for their teaching environment. The goal is for participants to become a 'fountain of knowledge' for both students and colleagues.
