Summary
Highlights
A room attendant begins cleaning by first knocking and announcing themselves three times to ensure the room is vacant. Upon entry, they turn on lights, open curtains, and open windows to air out the room. The cleaning caddy is placed in the bathroom, and the vacuum cleaner is positioned near a window or back wall.
The room attendant pre-sprays the toilet, basin, and shower in the bathroom. Next, all dirty linen from both the main room and bathroom is stripped and placed into blue bags, which are then moved outside the room, positioned to the side of the entry door for safety and WHS regulations. General rubbish and recycling are also collected, separated, and placed outside, with new garbage bags installed in the bins, including a spare at the bottom.
The room attendant counts out the required number of sheets for triple sheeting and places appropriate towels and bathroom linen on the bed. The bed is then made focusing on hospital envelope corners to ensure it is tight and presentable.
Upon entering the bathroom for cleaning, the room attendant puts on personal protective equipment (PPE), specifically gloves. Cleaning proceeds from high to low and in to out, starting with the shower (tiles, walls, screen, floor), then the basin (vanity, tiles, walls, mirrors, doors). The toilet is cleaned from inside to outside, ensuring the surrounding floor is also cleaned with appropriate cloths and chemicals.
After the bathroom is clean, new linen and toilet paper are replaced. The bathroom floor is vacuumed first, then cleaned from inside to out to avoid walking over cleaned areas. Finally, the main room is vacuumed from the furthest point back towards the door, using the vacuum nozzle without the head to clean corners, edges, window sills, and door runners effectively.
A final check ensures all light fixtures, power points, doors, hinges, and drawers are working correctly. Windows are closed, curtains are adjusted according to the time of day, air freshener is sprayed, all lights are turned off, and the door is closed, completing the room cleaning sequence.
