Summary
Highlights
The Andohon family lived a peaceful life in Bukidnon, dreaming of their children's success, especially their eldest son, John Kyler, who was about to graduate with a Criminology degree. His parents, Jiovani and Evangeline, invested significantly in his education, preparing a celebration for his upcoming graduation.
On May 21, 2025, tragedy struck the Andohon family home. The next morning, two young children, Mary Coleen and May Joey, discovered their parents and brother, Jeof Ivan, brutally murdered. They ran to their uncle's house for help, leading to the discovery of the horrific crime by barangay officials and the Malaybalay police.
Upon arrival, police found Jiovani, Evangeline, and Jeof Ivan dead from severe head trauma, likely from a large steel sledgehammer found nearby. All victims suffered traumatic brain injuries. There was no forced entry, no valuables stolen, and the murder weapon, belonging to the family, was meticulously wiped clean, suggesting an 'inside job'.
The lack of forced entry and the use of the family's own tool as the murder weapon led investigators to believe the culprit was known to the family. The two surviving children, Mary Coleen and May Joey, became key witnesses. A computerized facial composite, based on their description of the attacker, surprisingly resembled their eldest brother, John Kyler.
A background check revealed Kyler had been lying to his parents about attending school for a long time, using their money for vices instead. Eventually, the younger children, after gaining trust through their teacher, identified Kyler as the assailant. Faced with mounting evidence, Kyler admitted to killing his parents and younger brother to avoid humiliation and the discovery of his lies.
John Kyler Andohon was charged with two counts of parricide and one count of murder. A warrant for his arrest was issued in September 2025, and he was apprehended shortly after, confessing to the crime. The family is left devastated, seeking justice for the brutal loss of their loved ones at the hands of their own son.
