The video introduces the Montauk Project, a series of supposedly non-fiction books by Peter Moon and Preston B. Nichols, which claim a top-secret military project in Montauk, Long Island, mastered mind control and time travel, unleashing a monster. This project is presented as a major influence on Netflix's Stranger Things, drawing inspiration from 1980s pop culture.
Preston B. Nichols, despite claiming an illustrious career, lived a bleak life. He met Peter Moon, an ex-Scientologist, in 1990. Nichols claimed to have repressed memories of his involvement in a top-secret project. The video questions Preston's reliability, suggesting he had ulterior motives for his grandiose claims, particularly financial.
Preston Nichols claimed to begin working for a defense contractor, Airborne Instruments Laboratory (AIL), in 1971, researching mental telepathy. He traced a 'telepathic wave' to Camp Hero in Montauk, an abandoned military base with a SAGE radar system. After the base closed in 1981, he investigated, finding high-voltage equipment and meeting a man who claimed Preston was his former boss on a secret project that involved an explosion and a monster.
In November 1984, Duncan Cameron arrived at Preston's 'space-time Laboratories'. Duncan, who Preston likely met in conspiracy circles, recognized the Montauk base and went into a trance in the 'transmitter room'. Preston then used deprogramming techniques on Duncan, revealing that Duncan was programmed to murder Preston and blow up his lab. This process also helped Preston recover his own memories of living a double life and working at AIL as an 'Assistant Project Director'.
The Montauk Project's origins are tied to the Philadelphia Experiment, a supposed top-secret government project from 1943. This story originated from an annotated copy of Morris K. Jessup's book, 'The Case for the UFO', with notes by Carl Allen who claimed the Navy teleported the USS Eldridge. Al Bielek, another key figure in the Montauk narrative, later claimed that the 1984 movie 'The Philadelphia Experiment' helped him recover memories of being on the USS Eldridge and time-traveling to Montauk in 1983 with Duncan Cameron.
Preston claims the Montauk Project, or Phoenix 2, evolved from Project Phoenix, which combined the Philadelphia Experiment's teleportation with weather manipulation research by Wilhelm Reich. Reich's 'orgone energy' and 'cloud busters' were ostensibly used to control weather and human moods. The project, headquartered at Brookhaven Labs with Dr. John Von Neumann and Nazi scientists (from Operation Paperclip), aimed to manipulate human beings through electromagnetics. Congress supposedly shut down Phoenix in 1969, but the scientists secretly moved it to Montauk.
At Montauk, scientists used the SAGE radar system for 'microwave oven experiments' to alter moods. Duncan Cameron, with his strong psychic abilities, became the primary test subject. They developed the 'Montauk Chair', which combined a mind-reading machine (using alien technology from the Sirius star system), electrical coils, pyramid technology, and the radar system. Duncan could manifest objects and remotely control people. His abilities extended to bending time, eventually opening a 'time portal' between 1943 and 1983.
The Montauk team, after removing military personnel, began exploring the nature of time. They snatched 'winos and derelicts' then 'blonde-haired, blue-eyed children' (dubbed 'Montauk Boys') to send through time portals, often losing them. These experiments are linked to MK-Ultra's unethical human testing. Some Montauk Boys were allegedly sent to 'grays' for genetic experimentation or became sleeper agents and 'cult leaders for the satanic movement'. Others were sent to a 'dead city in 6037' on Mars.
The Montauk Project allegedly used time travel to access a Martian pyramid. Stuart Swerdlow, a 'Montauk Boy', was deprogrammed by Preston and remembered being sent to Jesus's lifetime to kill him and steal his blood. Jesus was unfazed, and Swerdlow returned with his blood. This blood then sent him to Mars, where he was told to give it to Jesus (who was actually Duncan Cameron disguised). The plan was to mix Jesus's and Duncan's blood to make Duncan appear as the second coming of Christ, effectively grooming him to be the Antichrist. This new information (Jesus, Antichrist) appeared only in the second book, suggesting continued fabrication.
In 1983, Duncan, influenced by Jesus's blood, conspired to shut down the project. On August 12, 1983, the USS Eldridge from 1943 appeared through the portal due to a hyperspace 'lock-up'. Al Bielek (as Edward Cameron) and Duncan Cameron from 1943 arrived at Montauk, were briefed by Dr. Von Neumann, and then returned to 1943 to destroy the USS Eldridge's generators. Simultaneously, Duncan of 1983 unleashed a monster from his subconscious, forcing Preston to destroy equipment to stop it. Duncan's body rapidly aged, so Montauk technicians supposedly went back in time for Duncan's dad to have another child, into whom Original Duncan's mind was transferred in 1963. Edward Cameron (Al Bielek) was also age-regressed, brainwashed, and placed into a child's body in the Bielek family. These events led to everyone involved being brainwashed until their memories resurfaced years later.
Preston claimed an earlier life as Preston B. Wilson in the 1800s, forming the 'Wilson brothers' with Duncan Cameron, who were supposedly friends with Aleister Crowley's father. Their combined businesses allegedly became Thorn EMI, a company involved in the distribution of 'The Philadelphia Experiment' movie, which Al Bielek claimed was government-sabotaged. Preston also claimed Mark Hamill (as 'Mark Knight'), a childhood friend and son of a Navy official, was involved with Montauk and helped produce the movie. Peter Moon suggested the movie writers might have 'channeled' the story subconsciously. Connections between the Cameron name, Crowley's visits to Montauk, and his magical diaries' missing dates are presented as 'synchronicities'.
Peter Moon explores a connection to Marjorie Cameron, wife of Jack Parsons (rocket scientist and Crowley follower), and L. Ron Hubbard (Scientology founder). Parsons, Hubbard, and Marjorie were involved in 'Babalon Working' rituals, which Peter claims created a space-time rift similar to the Philadelphia Experiment, leading to UFO sightings. He hypothesizes Parsons might have been at Montauk under a witness relocation program. Preston even claimed to have worked alongside a reptilian at Montauk. Marjorie Cameron later distanced herself from the Montauk claims. Mr. X, a contact, also mentioned Crowley's supposed time manipulation at Montauk.
The narrative of the Montauk Project, despite its gaping holes and inconsistencies, continues to circulate, particularly within New Age, conspiracy, and UFO circles. It preys on people's distrust of government and desire for belief. The creators, Preston, Duncan, Al, and Peter, profited from books, workshops, and services. The project's most significant influence is on Netflix's Stranger Things, which was originally named 'Montauk' and borrowed many central themes. The video concludes by warning against the mental health risks of uncritically believing such fantastical stories, which can lead to manipulation by 'New Age grifters and conspiracy capitalists'.
