Luke introduces his plan to build a hot tent snow cave for him and his two boys, Tommy and Nate, in the mountains of Alaska. He begins the arduous task of digging into the snow, highlighting the effort involved. He finishes the main digging just as the sun sets and starts working on the roof. After some adjustments to the cave's width, he lays down buffalo hides for a warm floor. His boys arrive and are excited about the snow cave.
Luke brings fire logs as there are no trees nearby, making it easier to transport fuel. He sets up the wood stove, which quickly warms the tent. He then prepares bunk beds for the boys within the snow cave. Using a water tank on the stove, they melt snow for water. For dinner, Luke prepares a luxurious meal of Korean barbecue with marinated pork belly and quail eggs, followed by Japanese ramen with steak, bok choy, green onions, and more quail eggs. They also enjoy Mapo Tofu with sticky rice, a favorite of Tommy's, before finishing with Boston cream cake for dessert.
After dinner, they seal up the snow cave entrance with a sled to keep out drafts. Luke reads the boys scary bear stories before they settle into their sleeping bags for the night. The next morning, they enjoy campfire donuts for breakfast, made from instant biscuits cooked in canola oil, which are a hit with the boys.
After breakfast, they decide to build a toboggan run on a beautiful nearby hill. Luke explains the process, using snowshoes to mark the trail and shovels to create ramps and utilize snowdrifts for turns. Once the 'Sledding Hill of Death' is constructed, Tommy and Nate enthusiastically take turns sledding down the thrilling course. After an intense sledding session and Nathan getting snow in his boots, they warm up in the car before starting to clean up the camp. Luke compares the snow shelter to Luke Skywalker's home on Tatooine.
