Transformation in Tribal Societies of Assam and North-East India

Historically, the tribal societies of Assam and North-East India, including the Bodos, had limited contact with the outside world, leading to slow changes in their traditional way of life. However, over time, the conservative nature of these communities has begun to transform, impacting their traditional lifestyles and cultures.

Improved communication, easier access to markets and towns, and increased interaction with external populations have spurred these transformations. This has led to the adoption of manufactured goods and a shift towards modern housing and non-traditional modes of living, with items like furniture, TVs, mobile phones, and contemporary utensils becoming common.

Despite the general trend towards modernization, a divide exists. While some embrace modern amenities, poorer and rural families within these tribal societies continue to adhere to their traditional housing systems and ways of life, indicating an uneven pace of transformation.
