Brian describes his initial NDE as a euphoric departure from his body, leading to depression upon his return due to the overwhelming beauty and love he experienced. He felt he was 'back home' and was upset to return to his earthly life, emphasizing the indescribable nature of the love he felt, which transcended human understanding. This experience solidified his new purpose: to share his story.
Brian, from Slidell, Louisiana, recounts his upbringing helping his father with an 18-wheeler, driving it by age 13 and on the highway by 15. After serving in the army, he found his passion in operating heavy equipment. His life was defined by work, often 21 days straight, 12 hours a day. While building a wind farm in Pratt, Kansas, he experienced pressure in his neck and chest, initially dismissing it as heartburn. This was a recurrence of an event from a year prior, where intense chest pain led to a hospital visit and a misdiagnosis of heartburn.
The pain intensified, extending to his arm, and Brian realized the seriousness of his condition. He started to pass out, falling to the floor. The last thing he felt was hoping someone would catch him before everything went black. He found himself in the 'stars,' believing he was dreaming, experiencing something he couldn't comprehend. He then entered a cave-like place, immense in scale, with walls that descended into an abyss. Floating without fear, he discovered a path of square stones and a grand, old castle-like door.
Through the doorway, Brian saw a translucent figure through whom he could see. Intrigued rather than afraid, he wished to approach it and instantaneously shot forward, blurring the surroundings. He realized he was no longer bound by human movement. The figure floated along the stone path and disappeared, and Brian then passed through the door into absolute darkness. Suddenly, a light appeared, searching, then engulfing him. Inside the light, it was soft and comfortable, and as he observed it, it transformed into a clearing fog, revealing a blue sky.
Brian experienced being 'caught up' by a powerful, indescribable love, like being plugged into electricity. Words like 'forgiveness,' 'love,' and 'peace' appeared before him. Upon seeing 'peace,' he floated back into the light, feeling his earthly identity, 'Brian,' diminish. He felt light, clear, and capable of anything, without a single worry. He floated down towards pine trees, observing every individual needle with incredible clarity. He then saw a vast garden below, with mesmerizing, enormous flowers that seemed alive and aware of his presence. He could zoom in on individual flowers with his mind, taking in their love.
The scene shifted to a limitless blue sky, then four bright lights appeared, growing larger as they approached. Smaller lights began to emerge everywhere, swirling around him, which Brian recognized as his departed family. When the four large lights drew near, the smaller lights rapidly ascended into the topmost large light, merging to form a full-bodied being of pure light. This being moved gracefully through the sky, always maintaining eye contact with Brian. The being then departed with incredible speed, leaving behind traces of itself that faded away.
Brian woke up to his medic performing CPR, having been gone for 4-5 minutes, an impossibly short time considering his journey. He learned his heart had stopped. Despite the chaotic scene, he felt a strange sense of calm, even making jokes to comfort his worried colleagues. He was prepared for transport by helicopter due to being 80 miles from a major hospital. In the ambulance, he went to sleep again. This time, he saw himself from an outside perspective, his body lying lifeless, which he referred to as 'it.' He describes his body as a separate entity, having no attachment to it.
In his second NDE, Brian was immediately faced with a circle of diverse flowers, each group representing different races and colors, all within the same circle. He instinctively understood this symbolized unity and how humanity, despite its differences, is interconnected. He noted the irony of human conflict while all are part of the same whole. He then found himself in space, observing an intensely blue planet with colors a thousand times more vivid than those on Earth. He had flashes of other visions, too numerous and fast to recall.
Brian returned to his body in the ambulance, shocked again to stabilize him. He was flown to a hospital, prepped for surgery for a massive heart attack. He learned he had a 'widowmaker heart attack' with only a 10% survival rate, even in a hospital. Doctors informed him his heart was severely damaged, and he would need a pacemaker. He wore a vest that would shock him if his heart failed, as it was only functioning at 30-35% capacity. After three months, a follow-up test revealed a miraculous recovery: his heart had healed completely, leaving only scarring from the defibrillation. The doctor called him a 'miracle.'
Brian states he is no longer afraid of death, seeing it as a return 'home.' His overwhelming joy and sadness upon returning led to depression, as no one understood his desire to stay in the afterlife. He sought out others with NDEs, finding commonalities in their experiences of profound love. His childhood religious upbringing, emphasizing hell and strict rules, was completely dismantled by his experience, where he saw no hell and felt like 'God.' He no longer judges people by their religion, having directly experienced a different reality. He now sees everyone as 'souls,' focused on helping others, unburdened by materialism, recognizing its impermanence.
