Highlights
The legend begins in West Kalimantan, where a poor mother lived with her beautiful but incredibly spoiled and lazy daughter. The daughter never helped her mother and always demanded her wishes be met, threatening to leave if not satisfied.
One day, the mother and daughter walked a long distance to the market. The daughter dressed nicely while her mother wore old clothes and carried a heavy basket. At the market, when men admired the daughter and asked about her companion, she shamefully claimed her mother was a maid.
Deeply humiliated by her daughter's cruel lie, the mother prayed to God for her daughter to be taught a lesson. God granted her prayer, and the daughter's body began to turn to stone. She begged for forgiveness, but it was too late, and she completely transformed into a crying stone statue.
The legend concludes by explaining that this is the origin of the 'Crying Stone,' named after the girl who cried as she turned to stone due to her disrespect towards her mother.
