Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP)

Highlights

Origins and Objectives of SVEP

The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) initially supported Self Help Group (SHG) members in enterprise development through the Micro Enterprise Consultants (MEC) project in 2013, piloted in Bihar and Jharkhand. This led to the comprehensive Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) in 2015. SVEP, a flagship entrepreneurship development program, aims to help SHG members and their families establish non-farm enterprises. Its objective is to create an entrepreneurship ecosystem in rural areas, offering resources for business growth.

Role of Community Resource Persons-Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EP)

A key component of SVEP is the development of Community Resource Persons-Enterprise Promotion (CRP-EP). These CRPs-EP are vital in promoting rural entrepreneurship by providing extensive business support services. Their responsibilities include identifying business ideas, assisting with business plan creation, facilitating access to loans, and offering ongoing support in marketing, accounting, and strategic business decisions.

Capacity Building and Standardization of Training

Capacity building for CRPs-EP is crucial for nurturing entrepreneurship ecosystems, with significant effort dedicated to systematic training processes. To standardize training tools for SVEP, the NRLM assigned this responsibility to Kudumbashree National Resource Organisation (NRO). This standardization ensures that State Rural Livelihoods Missions (SRLMs) across the nation can utilize consistent training materials.
