Highlights
Basilio plans to visit the sick and attend to his licensure before meeting with Macaraig about his degree. He has spent a significant portion of his savings to redeem Juli and buy a house for her and his grandfather. While at San Juan de Dios, he hears rumors of an uprising, which makes him recall Simon's plans.
Basilio learns that an uprising has been discovered, and many, including students, are implicated. He decides not to ask further questions to avoid suspicion and distances himself, citing his need to visit the sick.
A professor friend at the clinic asks Basilio if he was at the gathering the previous night and warns him about Captain Tiago's worsening condition. The professor advises Basilio to go home immediately and destroy any compromising papers. Basilio shrugs, stating he only has clinical notes, and mentions Simon, who apparently doesn't care about the situation.
Basilio learns that the 'uprising' involves the discovery of subversive posters, not actual bandits. He sees Isagani, who is pale but trying to encourage his classmates. Some students question the source of the warnings, while others, like Isagani, believe they should face the danger if it means upholding their honor and beliefs.
Basilio goes to Macaraig's house and after being made to wait, sees Macaraig happily conversing with civil guards. The corporal asks Basilio's name and checks a list. Basilio is also arrested. Macaraig jokes that Basilio, who usually avoids them in peaceful times, is now with them in trouble. They both get into a carriage, where Macaraig begins to explain the events of the previous night's dinner.
Padre Fernandez summons Isagani to his office. Isagani is pale, as he respects Padre Fernandez, whom he considers a venerable man and one who stands up against those who insult friars. The video ends with Padre Fernandez asking Isagani about the intentions of Filipino students.
