Aiden's Account of Domestic Incident Involving Stepfather

Aiden lives with his mother, step-grandma, and two younger brothers, Xavier and Charlie. His mother is a licensed dental or nursing professional. Aiden describes his stepfather, Joshua, as a narcissistic, childish, and immature individual with mental problems and a history of drug abuse. Despite his mother's attempts to get him into rehabilitation, Joshua would often disappear for extended periods, presumably to do drugs.

One day, Aiden observed his step-grandma listening intently outside his mother and Joshua's room. After hearing his mother scream, 'Please, Josh, I don't want to fight you right now,' Aiden, his step-grandma, and Xavier entered the room. They found his mother crying and Joshua staring at her with clenched fists. Aiden, due to his poor eyesight, initially couldn't discern what happened, but Charlie pointed out his mother's bruised, red legs.

Aiden's step-grandma and Xavier repeatedly told Joshua to leave, but he refused. Sensing danger, Aiden grabbed a pair of scissors for protection. When Aiden also told Joshua to leave, Joshua became confrontational, attacking Aiden by pulling his hair and punching him. Aiden considered using the scissors but realized it would be too dangerous with everyone present. His mother intervened, telling Aiden to go to his room and call the police.

Aiden called the police from his room, describing Joshua and the events. He briefly left his room and saw his step-grandma pushing Joshua out of the house. Joshua, seeing Aiden on the phone, cursed at him before stealing his mother's car and driving away. The police arrived, and Aiden recounted the incident. They later learned that Joshua crashed or abandoned the car. The family then had to answer police questions while trying to shield the younger children from the full impact of the event.
