¿Cómo empezó el conflicto entre Israel y Palestina? 🇮🇱🇵🇸 #curiosidades #historia #israel #palestinal
Summary
Highlights
Over 2,500 years ago, Jews lived in the Kingdom of Judea with Jerusalem as its capital. In the 1st century BCE, the Roman Empire conquered the region. After Jewish attempts at independence, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, expelled many Jews, and renamed the land 'Palestine' to erase its Jewish connection.
Centuries later, Palestine was part of the Ottoman Empire. During WWI, the British promised Arabs independence if they helped defeat the Ottomans. Contradictorily, they also promised Jews a national home in the same land.
After WWI, Palestine came under British control. Many Jews, fleeing persecution in Europe, began migrating there. Palestinians viewed this as a threat, leading to heightened tensions in the region.
In 1947, the UN proposed dividing Palestine into a Jewish and an Arab state. Jewish leaders accepted, but Arab leaders opposed it. A year later, the State of Israel was proclaimed, sparking a war with neighboring Arab countries. Israel won, acquiring more territory than initially assigned.
Since the 1948 war, Palestinians have primarily lived in the West Bank and Gaza, without a fully internationally recognized state.
