🏓 Rules of Table Tennis : How to Play Table Tennis Or Ping Pong : Table Tennis Rules EXPLAINED
Summary
Highlights
A player or pair wins a set by scoring 11 points. If both reach 10 points, the set continues until one gains a two-point lead. The winner of the game is the player or pair who wins the best of three, five, or seven sets.
Table tennis, also known as ping pong, can be played by two or four players. The objective is to be the first player to reach 11 points to win a set, and then win the best of three, five, or seven sets to win the game.
The game is played on a table nine feet long, five feet wide, and two and a half feet above the ground. The net is hung six inches above the table.
The first server is determined by a coin toss. The service must start with the ball in an open palm, above and behind the table. After throwing the ball, the server must move their free arm and hand out of the way. The ball must first bounce on the server's side, then over the net into the opponent's side. The opponent must allow the ball to hit their side before returning. If the ball hits the net and doesn't go over during service, the point goes to the other player, and there are no second serves. After each game, players rotate table ends and serving/receiving roles. In a deciding game, players swap ends after one reaches 5 points.
A point is scored when a player fails to make a legal service or return, the ball touches any part of a player's body, a player strikes the ball twice, a player touches or moves the table with their free hand, or in doubles, an opponent strikes the ball out of sequence.
A 'let' or replay situation occurs if the ball hits the net during a serve before touching the opponent's court, if an umpire interrupts the game, or if one player is not ready for the serve.
