Summary
Highlights
Grian begins the session hoping for a calmer experience after the previous 'octo kill'. He, Gem, and Pearl plan to talk to the team, build a lighthouse, and brace for the return of the 'Boogeyman'. Grian tests a 'square hole' trap and considers building a smaller decoy. The trio discusses their alliances, particularly the unstable alliances formed with the 'society' in the prior session, and contemplates making a bedroom for Etho as a backup. Grian anticipates a 'preparation episode' focused on mining and enchanting.
The Boogeyman is announced, and Grian expresses frustration at never being chosen. He and his teammates confirm they are not the Boogeyman, inferring someone else has been chosen to hunt them. Grian sets off on a mining expedition, aiming to tunnel to the Rejects' base for an attack. Despite extensive searching, he struggles to find diamonds but eventually stumbles upon some. A close call with a monster and a lost pickaxe heighten the tension during mining. Upon returning, it is revealed that Tango is the Boogeyman after his attempt to kill Grian by dropping TNT into their base's 'square hole'.
Grian surfaces near the Rejects' base, surprising Mumbo and BigB. He feigns innocent curiosity while subtly breaking their glass and activating a piston. He then reveals his diamond haul, which he struggled to find. The group discusses the 'octo kill' from the previous session, with Grian attributing it to fulfilling their 'villain' roles. Cleo announces a death arena where Joel and Scott will fight. Grian correctly deduces Cleo is also a Boogeyman due to her suspicious behaviour and plans involving the arena. The concept of 3D anaglyph mode is comically explored.
The team returns to their base and discusses the lighthouse's construction, opting for spruce. Pearl reveals she has been building with spruce for storage. They reflect on the '2014' feel of their current gameplay. They combine their diamonds to acquire full gear. The Rejects attempt to infiltrate their base, damaging Etho's room and leaving them bewildered by the attack.
Ren and Impulse discuss building pyramids. Grian approaches the 'Reject Retreat' and witnesses a massive explosion at the Pokeball. Initially confused, it is revealed that Scar, also a Boogeyman, orchestrated a multi-kill using a hidden TNT trap, taking out six players. The remaining players try to understand what happened, while Grian struggles to see the destruction that occurred, leading to confusion and humour related to the game's glitches and differing perspectives.
Grian and Gem head to the arena to witness Joel and Scott's fight. Before the match, a creeper unexpectedly blows up, killing Scott. Joel is declared the winner by default. Tango attempts to use his Boogeyman power during the fight but miscalulates the timing, leading to a failed assassination attempt and leaving him ashamed. The session concludes with reflections on Tango's missed opportunity and the growth of their lighthouse base.
