Origins and Early Dispersal

Humanity originated in Africa approximately 3 million years ago, with early hominid remains discovered in modern-day Ethiopia. As populations expanded, humans gradually dispersed across the globe, facilitated by lower sea levels during the colder glacial periods that created land bridges between continents.

Migration to the Americas

Traditionally, scholars believed the Clovis people migrated from Siberia to the Americas via the Beringia land bridge 12,000 to 14,000 years ago. However, recent archaeological and genetic evidence suggests human settlement in the Americas may have occurred much earlier—possibly 30,000 years ago—potentially via maritime routes.

Geographic Isolation

Approximately 12,500 years ago, a warming climate caused glaciers to melt and sea levels to rise. This environmental shift submerged land bridges, effectively isolating the populations of the Americas from those in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
