Tania and Sheildon met in 2007 and married in 2008, when Tania was pregnant. Sheildon came from an influential family in Pampanga. Early in their marriage, Tania's mother observed bruises on her, with Sheildon admitting to losing control during arguments. After years of alleged abuse, Tania separated from Sheildon in 2010 after he reportedly beat her. She returned to Manila with her children, rebuilt her life, and continued to allow Sheildon to visit their children and provide financial support.
On June 20, 2015, Tania's sister, Roanne, knew Tania was meeting Sheildon for the car money. Tania texted Roanne at 7:00 p.m., her last communication. When Tania didn't return home, her family became worried. Sheildon told Roanne he dropped Tania at the Dau bus terminal, claiming she planned to visit friends, which raised suspicions. A missing person's report was filed, and Tania's cellphone signal was traced to Malolos, Bulacan, where it was recovered, but Tania was not found.
On June 27, 2015, the owner of a vacant apartment, Regina Dychioco (mother of Sheildon's girlfriend, Angela), visited the property after Sheildon borrowed the key to do 'development work'. A foul odor led her to call the police. That evening, authorities discovered a freshly dug grave under plywood, revealing Tania's body. Her head was wrapped in a towel and garbage bag, and she was wearing the same clothes, accessories, and watch she had on when she went missing. The autopsy confirmed she died from a gunshot wound to the head, shot from behind, and had bruises on her shoulders.
Angela Dychioco, Sheildon's girlfriend, provided a sworn statement detailing the events. She initially claimed Sheildon picked up Tania to count money at Angela's mother's apartment. CCTV footage confirmed Sheildon and Tania together at a restaurant around 5-6 PM. Angela's official statement to CIDG described arriving at her apartment at 9 PM to find a visibly agitated Sheildon washing blood-stained money. She then found Tania dead in the maid's room, her head bloodied and wrapped. Sheildon instructed Angela to wrap Tania's head in a garbage bag, and together they buried her in a small pit in the dirty kitchen. They then disposed of Tania's belongings, including her cellphone, in Malolos, Bulacan, an apparent attempt to mislead investigators. Angela claimed she complied out of fear.
Sheildon Arcenas was charged with parricide, while Angela Dychioco was charged as an accessory to murder and recommended for the Witness Protection Program. Despite a warrant of arrest issued in June 2016 for parricide, and a prior warrant from July 2015 for violating probation related to an attempted homicide conviction in 2011, Sheildon has never been arrested. After 11 years, he remains at large, leaving Tania's family without full justice and the motive for her brutal murder unknown.
