Highlights
Piper gets hired at a sandwich shop. During her quirky interview, she reveals she is not a fan of sex and has never had an orgasm, prompting Tish, a colleague, to offer to help her 'figure it out.' Piper's artistic talent is soon discovered, and she is invited to decorate the shop's wall. She meets Zo, a crystal store owner who has a strong sense of intuition.
Jen, another employee, has been communicating online with a mysterious person named 'Fuzzy22.' She worries about meeting him, given the lack of identifying information exchanged. Meanwhile, Piper reveals that she gave a child up for adoption years ago and believes she has found her daughter, Julia, in Santa Cruz through an article about gifted art students.
Tish goes on a date with Tad. Piper meets Noah, Julia's adoptive father while drawing at the beach. Noah is impressed by her art and mentions that Julia also loves to draw. Piper offers to give Julia art lessons and begins spending more time with Noah and Julia, gradually inserting herself into their lives.
Jen's friends encourage her to meet Fuzzy22. Priestley, a male colleague, tries to understand the female experience by buying tampons, leading to a humorous yet insightful phone conversation with Tish about women's hygiene products. Noah makes a pass at Piper, which she deflects, making her uncomfortable.
Noah reveals a traumatic episode from Julia's past, where her biological mother attempted to harm her. Piper becomes visibly distressed and confesses, 'I'm not Anna,' hinting at her true identity. Later, Tad and Tish's relationship sours, and Tad makes a derogatory comment about Tish, leading to a confrontation with Trucker, revealing his protective and unexpectedly aggressive side.
Trucker, whose real name is Gordon Hancock, shares his past as a Vietnam War veteran who changed his identity seeking peace. He advises Tish to find a good partner. Zo, the crystal store owner, confesses that she had a crush on Gordon in high school. Jen's friends are able to deduce that Fuzzy22 is Jeff, and Tish helps Priestley get a date with Boaz.
Piper confronts Noah, admitting her true identity and her reason for being in his and Julia's lives. She explains her desperation to know her daughter was safe and happy after being forced to give her up. Noah, after some initial shock, accepts her, and they decide to move forward with honesty. Jen meets Jeff, and Tish and Boaz also go on a date, concluding with a group wedding for Trucker and Zo, and other couples by the beach.
