Pablo Queiroz introduces a technique to print 3D objects in half the time without losing quality. He uses a Wonder Woman bust as an example, reducing print time from 14 hours to 7 hours through a 'super optimized configuration'.
The standard configuration for the Wonder Woman bust uses a 0.4mm nozzle, a layer height of 0.12mm (for better detail on organic shapes), three walls, and 15% infill. This setup results in a print time of 14 hours and 20 minutes.
The first optimization involves switching to a 0.6mm nozzle. This allows for a wider extrusion width, delivering more material per pass. The layer height remains at 0.12mm to maintain detail, as the nozzle's adaptive width can handle finer details when needed.
The infill is set to zero because the specific piece (Wonder Woman bust) does not have significant internal overhangs that would require infill for support. The number of walls is reduced from three to two. With a 0.6mm nozzle, two walls (2 x 0.6mm = 1.2mm total width) provide the same overall wall thickness as three walls with a 0.4mm nozzle (3 x 0.4mm = 1.2mm total width), maintaining structural integrity.
After applying the super optimized configuration (0.6mm nozzle, 0.12mm layer height, zero infill, two walls), the print time is reduced to 6 hours and 28 minutes. The internal overhangs are analyzed, showing that the gradual angles do not require infill. The new wall configuration maintains the original total wall width, resulting in the same quality and detail as the longer print time.
