Highlights
As of 2025, for new gaming PC builds, AM5 is recommended unless the total build cost is $750 or less, in which case AM4 remains a viable option. For those currently on AM4, upgrading within the platform is encouraged as far as it can take them.
The irrelevance of AM4 will be less about the CPU and more about the availability and cost of supporting components. DDR4 RAM production will decrease as factories focus on DDR5 and DDR6, and AM4 motherboard production will also decline.
The video notes that certain budget B450 motherboards are already becoming harder to find. This decreasing supply will eventually drive up the prices of AM4 motherboards and DDR4 RAM. AM4 will become irrelevant when these increased prices make the entire AM4 package economically unfeasible.
