Summary
Highlights
Mary Tobin, an architect working on a wharf project, plans a weekend getaway to the mountains with her boyfriend, Kent. Her father and colleagues tease her about Kent proposing, but Mary is more excited about the outdoors. Meanwhile, her father is worried about Mary's grandfather, who is recovering from heart surgery, and the family is facing difficult decisions about his care.
Mary and Kent are hiking when they stumble upon Charlene, a young girl, and her dog, Natty. Charlene has twisted her ankle. Mary bravely scrambles down to rescue her, and they are brought back to Christmas Lodge, where Charlene lives with her father, Jack Rand. Mary realizes this is the magical lodge her family used to visit every Christmas when she was a child. The lodge, however, is now in disrepair.
Jack explains his parents' tragic accident, which led to the lodge's decline. Mary offers to help Jack secure grants for renovation, leveraging her expertise as a historic preservationist. Back home, Mary's father is initially skeptical about the feasibility and cost of restoring the lodge, drawing parallels to his own sentimental but unfinished projects.
Mary shares old photos of Christmas Lodge with her ailing grandfather, who reminisces about his time there with her grandmother. Inspired, Mary decides to commit to helping Jack restore the lodge. She convinces her father and brothers, who are licensed contractors, to inspect the lodge and provide an estimate for the renovations. Kent, however, breaks up with Mary, as their differing lifestyles and priorities become irreconcilable.
Mary's family agrees to help with the lodge. After inspecting the lodge, Mary's family assesses the extent of the damage and estimates the renovation cost to be between $1.8 and $2 million. Mary presents the project to her company's board, but they only grant half the requested funding. Disappointed, Mary talks to her grandfather, who pledges his own money to fund the remaining costs and encourages her father and brothers to assist Jack.
Mary's family begins working on the lodge, and Mary finds herself growing closer to Jack. They discuss their feelings and decide to explore a romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Mary receives news that her grandfather has suffered a stroke. The family gathers at the hospital, facing the reality of his declining health.
Charlene and Mary visit Mary's grandfather in the hospital, and he shows signs of recovery during physical therapy. Mary receives an offer to open a branch office in the mountains, allowing her to move closer to Christmas Lodge. Despite the challenges, the lodge is completed just in time for Christmas. Mary's fully recovered grandfather makes a surprise appearance. With everyone gathered, Jack proposes to Mary, who happily accepts. The movie ends with the joyful wedding celebration and the successful revitalization of Christmas Lodge as a beacon of love and family.
