The caregiver introduces herself to the patient (Pat) and explains the procedure. Pat is asked to put her feet flat to assist in raising her hips for placement of a waterproof pad underneath.

The first washcloth is sprayed with cleaner on each corner and in the center, then folded into quarters. The outer labia are wiped with the first two corners. The labia are then opened to clean the inner labia with the third and fourth corners. Finally, the center of the cloth is used to wipe from front to back down the middle. This washcloth is placed in the laundry hamper.

Pat is assisted to roll onto her side. A second washcloth is sprayed with cleaner in the center and used to wipe from front to back until clean, then placed in the laundry. A third dry washcloth is used to pat dry from front to back, then also placed in the laundry. The waterproof pad is folded to prevent the patient from rolling back onto dirty areas.

Post-Care and Cleanup

Pat is assisted back onto her back, and the waterproof pad is removed and discarded. The patient is repositioned for comfort, the bath blanket is removed, and the head of the bed is returned to 30 degrees. The call light is placed within reach, side rails are raised (if ordered), and the bed is lowered. Supplies are cleaned up, gloves are removed, hands are washed, and the procedure is recorded.
