Finn, despite Jake's suggestion to beat up the Ice King, insists on making him howl voluntarily. He devises a plan to trick the Ice King into howling during a 'game night'.
During game night, Finn tries to get the Ice King to howl by pretending that friends howl for each other. The Ice King, however, is too giddy to howl due to Finn's presence.
Princess Bubblegum explains that the kingdom is suffering from "freezer burn flu," a plague caused by the Ice King's beard. The only cure is the "pained howls" of the Ice King himself.
When Princess Bubblegum pleaded with the Ice King for help, he misinterpreted her request as flirting, showing no interest in assisting with the plague.
Jake suggests just beating him up, but Finn has another idea. He pretends to be hit by the Ice King (who was trying to save him from a bug) and fakes his death, causing the Ice King to let out a prolonged howl of despair, which cures the kingdom.
The Ice King's powerful howls reach throughout the kingdom, curing everyone of the freezer burn flu. Finn critiques the Ice King for dropping his 'lifeless body' too quickly.
