Personal Statement: A Journey into Visual Storytelling

The author's passion for photography began in childhood after receiving a camera from their grandfather, forging a deep bond and shared interest. This interest grew stronger in high school, leading to a Photography GCSE and then an A-level, where research into artists like Harold Edgerton further developed their skills in capturing light and movement.

A-level Drama sharpened the author's communication skills and confidence in speaking and working in teams. The storytelling aspects of drama and film, combined with critical thinking and understanding diverse characters, directly link to their chosen subject of film studies.

Photography A-level honed the author's ability to critically evaluate photographic content, moving beyond mere observation to understand varied meanings. Research into artists guided them in developing unique techniques, forming valuable building blocks for visual storytelling relevant to their desired film studies course.

Through Welsh Bac, the author volunteered for buddy reading, enhancing communication skills with younger audiences and learning to present information clearly. Work experience as a young leader for Beavers involved teaching practical skills like knot tying and assisting with activities, demonstrating patience, leadership, and teamwork.

The author assisted Beavers in earning badges by teaching photography and gardening, showcasing excellent communication and strong teamwork.
