The Central Park Zoo proudly presents Alex the Lion, the self-proclaimed "King of New York City," in his dazzling show. Alex performs for an enthusiastic crowd, basking in the applause and admiration.
While Alex performs, the penguins are busy executing their elaborate escape plan from the zoo. Skipper, Kowalski, Rico, and Private are digging a tunnel, aiming to reach Antarctica. They encounter a setback when their last shovel breaks, but remain determined to escape the zoo, which they see as a prison, calling it a "whacked out conspiracy."
After his show, Alex thanks the crowd and encourages them to get home safely, looking forward to his 24-hour sleep. Meanwhile, Alex encounters the penguins during their escape attempt. The penguins, initially disguised and trying to be inconspicuous, reveal their intention to dig to Antarctica. Alex is intrigued by the idea of an open, wild space like Antarctica.
Alex returns to his enclosure, settling into his luxurious lifestyle at the zoo, getting a massage and enjoying his celebrity status, seemingly unaware of the penguins' actual motives or the true implications of the 'wild'.
