They contributed to budget setting and took ownership of cost and retail pricing, profitability, promotions, and market share. This included analyzing brand and supplier performance to maximize net contribution and collaborating with merchandising teams to optimize stock.
The role encompassed multi-channel responsibility for categories across both Argos and Sainsbury’s, requiring adaptation of ranges to maximize opportunities in different propositions and customer missions. The buyer also line-managed Assistant Buyers, supporting them in delivering category strategies, and collaborated with Technical teams to ensure product quality and safety, particularly for Toys and Nursery categories.
The Senior Buyer was responsible for diverse categories, including Outdoor Toys, Boys Toys & Construction, and Nursery, managing seasonal ranges, own-label sourcing, big brand management, and ethical challenges. They also focused on building ranges suitable for online display and marketing, optimizing digital content and customer journeys, and creating in-store displays for both permanent and temporary spaces.
