The Miser's Initial State
Ebenezer Scrooge is a cold-hearted, greedy man who rejects Christmas cheer and acts cruelly toward his clerk, Bob Cratchit, and his nephew, Fred. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his former partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that three spirits will visit to offer him a chance at redemption.
The Three Spirits
The Ghost of Christmas Past shows Scrooge his lonely childhood and his lost love, Belle; the Ghost of Christmas Present reveals the struggles of the Cratchit family and the plight of Tiny Tim; and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge the bleak future of an unnamed, unmourned man, who is revealed to be Scrooge himself.
Transformation and Redemption
Terrified by his impending death and the consequences of his selfish life, Scrooge vows to change. He wakes up on Christmas Day with a newfound spirit of generosity, supporting the Cratchit family and living the rest of his days with kindness and charity.
