Summary
Highlights
Hope, a businesswoman, decides to take a last-minute tour to Ephesus after her work meetings are canceled. On the bus, she meets Jeff, who is also on the tour. While exploring Ephesus, Hope accidentally spills a sugary drink on Jeff's phone, rendering it unusable, right after he receives an urgent call about his job. Consequently, they miss their tour bus, which leaves them stranded with no belongings or immediate way to get back to Istanbul.
Stranded and without their bags (which contain their passports and most of their money), Hope and Jeff face the daunting task of reaching Istanbul. Their attempts to get money or a room without passports prove futile. They eventually find a kind hotel worker who offers them a small room for the night in exchange for cleaning, which they gratefully accept.
With no money, Jeff and Hope resort to hitchhiking. During their journey, Hope shares that she is on a trip following letters from her recently deceased mother, which lead her to various meaningful locations in Turkey. Jeff reveals that his job is in jeopardy, as his boss is trying to steal his innovative project. Their shared predicament, combined with Hope's personal mission, begins to forge a connection between them.
Seeking a way to clean up, Hope and Jeff find a Turkish bathhouse. They offer to work in exchange for a bath and a small payment. Hope, using her mother's negotiation tactics, successfully barters for a better deal. Jeff, witnessing her skills, starts to understand Hope better. Later, Hope surprises Jeff with Turkish delight, something his mother mentioned in one of her letters, after bartering for it with his tip money.
They visit thermal springs, another location from Hope's mother's letters. Hope reads her mother's letter, which talks about finding perspective and love at the springs. Soon after, they serendipitously encounter their original tour bus. Jeff, still focused on saving his job, decides to leave immediately for Istanbul, leading to a heated exchange where he dismisses the importance of Hope's mother's letters. Hope, hurt, stays on the bus to continue her mother's journey.
Hope completes her mother's journey at a beautiful beach, reflecting on the lessons learned. Jeff, having processed their argument, realizes what truly matters. Instead of catching his flight, he changes his plans to meet Hope at the last location on her mother's list, a cistern in Istanbul. He apologizes, expressing his gratitude for her presence and admitting that everything important is with her. They share a heartfelt reunion, choosing to explore their connection over immediate career concerns.
