Summary
Highlights
Police arrive at the scene of an accident. The driver, Demitra, is bleeding and her sister is present. Demitra initially downplays her injuries, claiming it's just a scratch from glass. The officer prioritizes her safety before taking her account of the incident.
Demitra explains that another woman was tailgating her. She pulled over, and at a stop sign, the other woman gave her the middle finger. Demitra retaliated, and then claims the other woman threw a glass bottle at her car, prompting Demitra to 'go after her' and intentionally hit her car.
An ambulance is called for Demitra's injuries. Her sister repeatedly interferes, telling Demitra not to speak until their mother arrives. There's confusion about a blood stain on Demitra's car, which she denies is hers. Demitra is uncooperative with the officer's questions about her movements and refuses to exit her car.
The other driver, Nicole, gives her side of the story. She claims Demitra pulled over, then cut her off, and followed her aggressively. Nicole states Demitra intentionally hit her car, causing her to crash into a building. Nicole also claims Demitra got out of her car yelling, holding a knife, and threatening her.
Officers physically remove Demitra from her car after she refuses to exit. She resists arrest and is tased. While Demitra is being checked for injuries, officers begin searching her car for the alleged knife. They find a THC vape and, after receiving confirmation from witnesses, locate a black closed pocket knife.
Demitra initially claimed Nicole threw a beer bottle at her car. Nicole denies this but changes her story to say she threw a blue water bottle out the window, not at Demitra's car, for disposal. An officer finds a blue Star Wars themed metal water bottle, halfway full, making Nicole's disposal claim unlikely. Nicole is charged with disorderly conduct, obstructing, and reckless driving. Demitra admitted her intention was to 'slap the out of her' and was charged with felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting, obstructing, and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon modifier. She later took a plea deal and received three years probation.
