Ritwik's father, after years of work, became an officer and was assigned senior staff quarters. However, due to his mother's knee pain and the third-floor location, they opted for an older, dilapidated mid-senior staff quarter that had been vacant for 23 years. Locals claimed nothing was wrong, just that it needed renovation. With the help of the maintenance head, the quarter was painted and made ready. Ritwik was the first to enter, carrying religious idols, following his mother's Vaastu beliefs.
After moving in, life was initially good. Ritwik's father's health improved, and finances were stable. One afternoon, a postman delivered vigilance orders for Ritwik's father, requiring him to conduct a night raid at the jute mill. To avoid disturbing his family, Ritwik's father locked the main gate from the outside and used a different entrance through Ritwik's room for the raid. Three days after the raid, strange occurrences began. Ritwik consistently encountered his mother coming out of the bathroom late at night, seemingly unresponsive, and displaying an unusual, sheepish smile and sliding walk. His mother later denied being out of her room at those times. Simultaneously, Ritwik developed severe rashes that spread rapidly, causing intense itching and bleeding, and did not respond to medical treatments.
One night, Ritwik had a vivid dream where he saw their house brand new, and unknown people walking outside who couldn't see him. He then saw a woman outside his window, resembling his mother's strange smile, and smoke emanating from her. In the dream, he felt his body being twisted. Waking up in a panic, he found the body parts that were twisted in his dream were now aching. He remembered every detail of the dream and told his mother, specifically mentioning the woman's smile being identical to hers when she supposedly came out of the bathroom. His mother vehemently denied ever being outside her room at night, leaving both of them convinced there was an unseen entity in the house.
Disturbed by the events, Ritwik's mother called his grandmother, who possessed clairvoyant abilities. The grandmother, sensing danger, urged them to leave the house immediately during a phone call. She then traveled to Kolkata. Upon entering the house, the grandmother immediately became emotional, visibly distressed by the strong negative presence. She performed a puja (worship ritual) and, through a spiritual communication, uncovered the truth: 22-23 years prior, a couple lived in the house. The husband, working night shifts, would lock the main gate. The wife began an affair with a neighbor. One night, the husband returned to find them together, leading to a violent confrontation. The neighbor fled, and in a fit of rage, the husband doused his wife with kerosene and set her on fire outside the house. She died by their main gate after repeated attempts to re-enter the house.
The grandmother revealed that the woman's soul became a vampire, trapped in a time loop, knocking on the main gate every night between 2 and 2:30 a.m., the exact time of her death. Previous tenants never opened the gate at that hour, but Ritwik's father, during his vigilance duty, unknowingly broke this cycle by opening the main gate around 2:00 a.m., allowing the spirit to enter. Because Ritwik was the first to enter the house with religious idols, the spirit targeted him as the 'head of the house.' His dream was a glimpse into the tragic past of the house. The grandmother, using her spiritual knowledge, bound the spirit back into its time cycle, but warned that if the main gate was ever opened again between 2 and 2:30 a.m., the spirit would return and take the head of the family. She advised them to vacate the quarters immediately. A month and a half later, Ritwik's family found another quarter and moved. Ritwik confirms that even today, the spirit continues to knock on the main gate between 2 and 2:30 a.m., unheard by others.
