Bibi Blocksberg's mother scolds her for practicing spells indoors after a wrong spell shatters a vase. Despite being told not to use her magic in the apartment, Bibi quickly uses her broom, Kartoffelbrei, to clean up, causing more trouble by startling neighbors with wild flights.
Bibi’s mother prepares a unique salamander and spider leg soup, which Mr. Blocksberg tries to avoid. Meanwhile, Bibi and her father receive news that Aunt Maria has gifted them a plot of land, sparking dreams of a new home. Bibi's attempt to conjure food from the neighbors' apartment leads to a humorous exchange and a scolding from her father.
A police officer investigates a complaint about the Blocksbergs being witches. Bibi innocently demonstrates her broom, Kartoffelbrei, causing chaos in the apartment. The officer, bewildered, is then given a ride home on Aunt Maria's broom, Baldrian, accompanied by Bibi and her mother, to the disbelief of the neighbors.
Bibi and her mother visit their new land, envisioning a perfect house without the annoyances of city life and neighbors. Bibi attempts to magically build a house on the property, but her mother reminds her of the witch's rule: spells for personal gain only last seven days. They realize they'll have to endure their current living situation a bit longer.
While practicing magic, Bibi accidentally causes a fire on her balcony, which quickly spreads. The fire department struggles to reach their high-rise apartment. Bibi and her mother use their brooms to rescue people, including the twins from a neighboring apartment, earning gratitude and cheers from the onlookers.
After the fire, the Blocksbergs are left homeless. Mr. Müller, whose children Bibi saved, offers to build them a house at a fair price as a thank-you. The Blocksbergs camp on their new land while waiting for their house. Eventually, Mr. Müller's son begins construction, and Bibi magically creates a perfect representation of their future home for a newspaper photo before it’s built.
