Bridge Engineering Assistant Responsibilities

Responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting bridge plans, specifications, and technical reports to assist inspection and construction teams, identify discrepancies, and contribute to accurate assessments. The role also involves conducting basic inspections of bridge construction and related infrastructure to verify compliance with design documents and reporting findings to supervising engineers. Interpretation of drawings and specifications is crucial to ensure compliance with construction regulations.

The position requires preparing concise summary reports detailing inspection findings, site conditions, contractor activities, and meeting outcomes for review by project managers and clients. It also involves coordinating and producing project documentation, such as technical reports, memos, and correspondence for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring consistency, clarity, and adherence to project standards.

Tasks include reviewing and checking standard structural design calculations, performing structural evaluations using multiple software platforms, interpreting results, and contributing insights to engineering discussions. The role also involves developing preliminary details using CAD software and providing information to CAD technicians for the development of contract plans. Additionally, performing and checking quantity takeoffs from contract plans is a key duty.

Work conditions can involve climbing high bridge structures and working from aerial access equipment or platforms at high elevations. Potential hires may undergo background checks, including drug screening, motor vehicle record checks, and security background checks for e-RAILSAFE and TWIC.
