Summary
Highlights
A blind woman, Mingruo, goes on a blind date set up by her grandmother. Her grandmother describes the man, Shang Chi, as an ordinary programmer with a low salary, no house, and no car, who is also 'ugly' - not knowing that Mingruo is actually a wealthy heiress. Mingruo meets Shang Chi, and an inexplicable feeling draws her to him. She notes a scar on his hand, stirring a forgotten memory.
Shang Chi, needing to appease his grandmother's pressure to marry, asks Mingruo to be his fake girlfriend. He is surprised by her eagerness to become his 'fake wife.' Despite her blindness, Mingruo's instincts are sharp, and she accepts his proposal. They quickly get their marriage certificate, with Mingruo's grandmother ecstatic about the union. Mingruo feels a deep sense of security with Shang Chi.
Mingruo and Shang Chi move into what she believes is his small, old apartment. Unbeknownst to her, Shang Chi is actually a very wealthy CEO, and the 'poor' facade is a setup by his grandmother to ensure Mingruo marries him for love, not money. Mingruo unknowingly offers him her house keys and bank card, eager to support him. Shang Chi, touched by her sincerity, struggles to maintain the deception and works to renovate her actual luxurious home in secret. Mingruo, meanwhile, secures a well-paying job, believing she needs to earn money for a piano and to support her husband.
Mingruo, a talented musician, faces an old rival, Wei Hexue, who mocks her blindness and musical aspirations. Shang Chi arrives, defending Mingruo and showcasing his subtle influence. He arranges for Mingruo to receive a high-value pipa for free, impressing her with what she believes is his luck. Shang Chi continues to dote on Mingruo, even trying to learn Braille to better understand her world. He makes an appointment with an eminent ophthalmologist for her, borrowing money (or so she thinks) to pay for the expensive consultation.
Mingruo gets an interview with a prestigious music ensemble, which reunites her with an old mentor, Xue Mu, who also expresses interest in her. Shang Chi grows jealous, fearing he might lose her. Mingruo's eye surgery is scheduled, and Shang Chi, still keeping his true identity a secret, continues to fabricate his humble situation, which causes friction. After her surgery, Mingruo pretends her vision has not returned, testing Shang Chi's honesty. She uncovers his lies when his grandmother and young cousin reveal the truth about their wealth.
Mingruo confronts Shang Chi about his deception. Heartbroken by his lies, she decides to divorce him, despite his attempts to apologize and explain his reasons for hiding his wealth. Shang Chi's grandmother intervenes, revealing a past newspaper clipping that shows Shang Chi had saved Mingruo in a car accident 10 years ago, suggesting Mingruo had recognized him all along and married for love. Shang Chi, remembering the accident, realizes Mingruo was the girl he saved. They reconcile, understanding their decade-long connection.
Shang Chi and Mingruo renew their vows and solidify their relationship. Shang Chi establishes a charity fund for the blind and develops a motion-sensing game called 'Dialogue in the Dark' to help others experience the challenges of blindness. The game includes an 'Easter egg' where the protagonist regains their sight, symbolizing hope and their journey together.
