Highlights
The True Nature of US History00:00:05
The history of the United States is presented as a history of settler colonialism, founded on white supremacy, African slavery, genocide, and land theft. The video suggests that an 'upbeat ending' or a 'history of redemption' is not visible in this narrative.
Rethinking the National Narrative00:00:40
Writing US history from an indigenous peoples' perspective requires rethinking the consensual national narrative. This narrative is deemed wrong or deficient in its essence, embodying settler colonialism and genocide.
Transforming Society through Acknowledgment00:01:11
A central question the book pursues is how acknowledging the reality of US history can work to transform society.
