Men, Women, and Ideal Images

Many young men are paralyzed by a fear of rejection from women, especially those they are attracted to. This fear stems from viewing women as manifestations of a judgmental ideal rather than as individuals.

Men often use an idealized image of women as motivation, striving to become worthy in their eyes, similar to Tom Sawyer showing off to Becky. This is connected to the concept of chivalry.

To form a real relationship, men must sacrifice the ideal image of a woman and see the individual. This is illustrated by the hero in Sleeping Beauty defeating the Evil Queen (dragon of chaos) to reach the actual princess.

One method to overcome the fear of rejection involves intentionally encountering it repeatedly. An example is a men's group that challenged initiates to ask 50 women for their phone numbers in a single day to desensitize themselves to rejection.
