Pacific War Situation Report - December 11, 1941

Japanese forces conducted multiple amphibious landings and support operations at Miri and Guam, encountering coastal defense fire. At sea, Japanese vessels engaged in mine clearing operations at Vigan, while multiple submarine encounters were reported, including a successful Japanese attack sinking an Allied AVP near Balikpapan and a surface combat near Singkawang that resulted in the sinking of the Allied merchant ship xAKL Ipoh.

Japanese air forces conducted widespread bombing raids against Allied airfields and ground positions in Rangoon, Kuantan, Kuching, Rabaul, Kunming, and several locations in China. Notable losses included Allied naval vessels near Kuching being sunk by torpedo bombers, while Allied interceptors at Kuching provided limited resistance against heavy Japanese raids.

Significant ground engagements occurred across the theater. Japanese forces successfully captured Miri and Victoria Point from Allied base forces. In contrast, Japanese deliberate attacks on Hong Kong and near Canton and Lang Son faced strong defensive fortifications and suffered significant casualties, highlighting the difficulty of these assaults. Ongoing bombardment operations were also noted near Kaifeng.
