Summary
Highlights
The will of a deceased patriarch is read, distributing properties and company shares to his sons Samuel and Wakin (Chino). Roberto Peaf Francia, a loyal colleague, also receives shares. Chino is irresponsible and Samuel criticizes his lavish spending, threatening to cut off his allowance if he doesn't work or learn to be frugal.
Lani, who lives with her mother, is in an online relationship with a man from the UK. She dreams of going abroad, believing it will lead to a better future, despite her mother's skepticism. Her mother warns her about the dangers of online relationships and her history with men. Lani, however, is determined to escape her current life.
Chino gets into a fight in a club, defending a woman. His brother, Samuel, sends him to America for his safety, urging him to cool off from the mayor's son he had an altercation with. Meanwhile, Lani discovers she is pregnant and confronts Chino's family, who deny his presence and dismiss her claims, revealing Chino has many girlfriends.
While in America, Chino struggles with his reduced allowance. He meets Gwen, a Filipino-Chinese woman, at a university. She shares her Lola's homemade Filipino food with him. He learns about her family history and her plans to open a restaurant in the Philippines, which sparks an idea for him.
Sam meets Lani at a charity ball and is immediately drawn to her. He attempts to pursue her, sending gifts and visiting her workplace. Lani, however, is guarded and tests his intentions, stating she is only interested in a serious relationship, not just casual friendship or gifts.
Chino returns home to the Philippines, surprising his brother Samuel. He introduces Gwen as his girlfriend, much to the initial approval of Samuel. However, tensions rise when Samuel's wife, Nanny, recognizes Lani as Chino's girlfriend. This sparks a confrontation where Chino expresses his disdain for Lani, believing she has bad intentions.
It is revealed that Lani and Gwen are sisters and are working together on a revenge plot against Chino. Gwen expresses reservations, fearing the consequences and having developed feelings for Chino, but Lani is resolute. Lani's motive is a past incident where Chino supposedly exploited and hurt her.
Chino's animosity towards Lani intensifies, warning Gwen to stay away from her. Meanwhile, Sam attempts to reconcile Chino and Nanny by showering them with gifts. Lani, still driven by her plan, tries to manipulate Chino, using their past intimacy against him. Sam is unaware of the sisters' true connection and Lani's vengeful intentions.
Sam proposes to Nanny, and she accepts after some hesitation. It is revealed that Nanny, now Lani, did not intentionally fall in love with Sam. The sisters' mother reveals the truth about Lani's past pregnancy with Chino's child, which miscarried due to Chino's brother's actions. Gwen, overwhelmed by the truth, confronts Lani.
Chino learns that his brother is no longer a suspect in Mon's death. Later, Nanny fabricates a story to Chino about Sam hurting her. Meanwhile, Gwen and Chino share a moment and get closer. The hidden resentment and betrayal among the characters escalate, leading to a climax where Chino learns the intricate web of lies and past events involving Lani and Gwen.
Chino discovers the full extent of the plot and the past suffering of Lani, including her aborted pregnancy caused by his brother's actions. He realizes the manipulation and betrayal he has faced. The story concludes with the annulment of Sam and Lani's marriage, and an old verdict related to a murder case is reversed due to insufficient evidence, leading to Wakin Lee's acquittal. The true identity and motives are finally exposed.
