Highlights
Zhao Feng, a peasant orphan, finds himself in a new world where life is even harder. He joins a volunteer army, partly to find a wife, and unexpectedly activates a mysterious system that enhances his physical abilities and grants him talents through relationships. He acquires two wives, Chen Ching-shu and Ye Zhiyi, who were initially captives but become loyal to him.
Zhao Feng's influence grows. He saves Lin Qingyue from a tiger, adding another member to his household. His growing family and reputation lead to him being entrusted with villagers' lives as he prepares to join the army. He also procures unique weapons from an exiled Korean blacksmith, gaining loyalty and trust from his community.
Zhao Feng officially joins the rebel army as a commander of 50 men. He faces challenges from within the ranks, including a powerful officer named Zheng Mao, but uses his strength and strategic mind to quickly establish his authority. He impresses General Qian Chong and is entrusted with command over new recruits, training them with unconventional methods.
Zhao Feng's unit spearheads the attack on Jianyang. Despite being considered cannon fodder, his trained men, along with his personal bravery, lead to a swift victory. He captures the city and uses the opportunity to gain influence and resources. He also takes in Chu Shishui, the daughter of the Jianyang Minister, further expanding his household and gaining political leverage.
Zhao Feng, through cunning and strategic planning, manages to capture Han Dingguo, a formidable general of the imperial army. This allows him to negotiate favorable terms with Han's son, Han Bailu, securing resources and control over Quanjiao and Liyang counties. He also gains the loyalty of Li Bozhi, a disgruntled scholar, who becomes his strategist.
Zhao Feng continues to consolidate his power, winning over his troops and gaining further territories. He faces direct confrontation and betrayal from the imperial court, including an attempt on his life by Princess Nianwei, manipulated by her brother, the Emperor. However, Zhao Feng's charisma and Nianwei's growing loyalty to him foil the plot. The narrative ends with Zhao Feng preparing to take on the imperial forces and establish his own dynasty.
