Gru, dressed as "Gru Zincerbell," makes a magical entrance at Princess Agnes's birthday party, much to Agnes's excitement. Agnes asks Gru why he's so fat, to which he replies that his house is made of candy and he sometimes eats instead of facing his problems.
Jillian attempts to set Gru up with her recently single friend Natalie, listing her qualities such as singing karaoke, having free time, and not caring about looks. Gru firmly rejects the idea, and also turns down Jillian's cousin Linda and a widow.
Gru questions Edith about who she is texting, leading to a humorous discussion about the ambiguous name "Avery." Agnes also jokes about Gru's bald head, imagining a chick popping out of it.
Agent Lucy Wild from the Anti-Villain League confronts Gru. After a brief and comical struggle where Lucy reveals her "lipstick taser," she successfully abducts Gru.
