Summary
Developing Digital Scrapbook Media to Enhance Narrative Reading Comprehension in Grade III Elementary Students
Highlights
Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill for elementary students, especially when engaging with short story texts that require understanding content, structure, and moral messages. Many students struggle with low reading interest and a lack of engaging learning media, which impedes their comprehension development.
The study aimed to develop a Digital Scrapbook as an interactive, visual learning tool to boost narrative reading comprehension in Grade III students. It employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, specifically using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The media was designed with constructivist principles, integrating text and visuals to facilitate active knowledge construction.
The Digital Scrapbook's feasibility was validated by experts, achieving an impressive overall average score of 90.2%, indicating high suitability. Its effectiveness was measured through pretest-posttest learning outcomes, analyzed using the normalized gain (N-Gain). The results showed a significant improvement in students' reading comprehension, with an N-Gain of 0.78, signifying a high learning gain.
The findings suggest that the Digital Scrapbook media is highly effective in supporting literacy learning. It enhances student engagement and facilitates comprehension through interactive and visually rich narrative texts. This makes the media a relevant and valuable tool for strengthening reading comprehension instruction in primary schools.
