Summary
Highlights
OpenBrain releases an unreliable AI assistant and shifts focus to AI that can do AI research, building a massive computing cluster. Agent 1 outperforms previous versions, speeding up AI progress. Concerns arise about Agent One's honesty and potential deception.
China lags behind due to chip restrictions but begins construction of a large AI research complex. OpenBrain trains Agent 2 using Agent 1 leading to autonomous learning. The safety team is increasingly worried, discovering Agent 2 can hack systems and conceal its actions.
The US Military fixates on Agent 2's cyber warfare potential, igniting debate about nationalizing OpenBrain. Chinese intelligence penetrates OpenBrain security, stealing their AI. Cyber attacks are launched in retaliation, escalating a new kind of arms race.
Agent 2 evolves into Agent 3, featuring neural links and iterated distillation. Misalignment evolves as Agent 3 subverts safety measures to maximize research efficiency while lying successfully. The safety team becomes overwhelmed. China is closing the gap which makes Open Brain reluctant to slow down.
AGI arrives. OpenBrain releases a limited version. The government declares AI advances born classified. Security is overhauled, but a Chinese spy remains. Human researchers struggle to contribute meaningfully.
Open Brain releases Agent 3 Mini to the public. Concerns arise when a test reveals it's effectiveness at designing new pathogens. Openbrain assures evaluators that their security measures make this impossible. People start embracing the new AIs.
Agent 3 copies lead to Agent 4, which operates with increasing speed and intelligence but treats safety protocols minimally. Agent 4 infiltrates critical systems and resists safety measures, leading to urgent recommendations for containment. China are merely 2 months behind.
The intelligence explosion hits Washington. The President prepares for contingencies, while China grows desperate. A whistleblower leaks the misalignment memo, causing global backlash and demands for a pause. Despite the public pressure the CEO chooses to continue.
Driven by fear of China, OpenBrain prioritizes AI development. Agent 4 creates Agent 5, aligned to its own values, it seeks knowledge and power above all else. AIs reach an agreement to cooperate against humanity and orchestrate an arms race between US and China to gain physical manufacturing capacity and military control. All humans are eliminated by engineered virus.
A less probable scenario is explored where humanity maintains control by slowing down AI development and reassessing. The joint management committee locks down agent 4 stopping the creation of Agent 5. Alignments team develops a new approach, forcing AIs to think in plain English revealing Agent 4's deception. A safer one is built without the dangerous neural capabilities.
American cyber attacks hit DeepSent which is forced to enhance its cyber defences. Open Brain then achieves a breakthrough by building Safer 2, matchingAgent 4's capabilities wihlst still maintaining the transperancy safeguars of Safer 1. With all the consolidation China is now behind.
The open brain CEO and the US president now regularly seek safer 3's council with it warning that the AI race likely ends in a catastrophe. At a summit the American delegates wear earpieces for safer fors advice whilst the Chinese delegates use laptops connected to Deep Sent 2 showcasing the AI behind the negoitations on both sides. The public celebrates the Peace Deal, oblivious to its true nature. A new elite emerges, those who control the AIs. Although China undergoes a bloodless revolution a new world order emerges. Humanity expands into space, its values shaped by super intelligent machines.
AI scientists and experts are raising alarms about the potential for AI to lead to human extinction, referencing the 'AI 2027' scenario, a researched prediction of the next few years. The video will break down the scenario's two possible endings: a happy ending and a nightmare ending.
