Summary
Highlights
Nixo, a respected elder in a simple bushman village, lives a carefree life. One day, while hunting, he stumbles upon a television commercial shoot. A prop from the shoot, a yellow bird in a bottle, falls from the sky and lands near him. He brings it back to his tribe, who celebrate it as a gift. They soon realize the bird is trapped, and Nixo embarks on a journey to find the 'pretty lady' who put it in the bottle to free it.
Nixo's journey takes an unexpected turn, and he ends up as accidental luggage on a plane to Hong Kong. He arrives in a bustling city, a stark contrast to his village. Meanwhile, Tony and Shirley encounter problems at the airport, including Nixo and a suitcase full of diamonds that gets mixed up in the chaos. Shirley's boss, Jack, calls her to ensure that 40 Malibu Burger outlets are set up in Hong Kong before his arrival.
Nixo spends his first day in Hong Kong bewildered by the city's complexities. He tries to understand the local customs and traffic, drawing the attention of law enforcement who later bring him to Shirley's office after finding him with her ID. Shirley is also dealing with her mother's shop being targeted as the 40th Malibu Burger location, causing conflict between them.
Shirley faces difficulties at work and home. Her mother is upset about her store being taken over for a Malibu Burger, and her husband has run off with the company's money. Her friend Winnie tries to help, offering financial assistance but also facing relationship problems of her own, discovering her boyfriend has also left her.
Shirley's colleague John takes Nixo out, attempting to entertain him but also trying to get him out of the way. Nixo experiences new things like a fish market and a tailor, teaching John some of his own perspectives. Later, Nixo meets Winnie, who tries to dress him up. Meanwhile, Jack arrives, pushing Shirley to secure the 40th outlet.
Shirley confronts Jack about her mother's store. She decides to resign, choosing her family over the company. A chaotic fight ensues at the store, with Nixo using his bushman skills to protect Shirley and her mother's business from thugs hired by Jack. The chaos escalates into a full street chase. Nixo helps retrieve stolen items and navigate the city.
Nixo returns to his village, having freed the bird. He reflects on his journey and how people, despite their differences, are the same inside. John and Winnie unexpectedly appear, disillusioned with city life, and decide to join Nixo and his tribe, embracing a new, simpler existence.
