Wayne Cesaro, a personal trainer, developed severe respiratory issues due to RSV, flu, and pneumonia after babysitting his grandkids. While cutting firewood, his breathing became critical, leading him to collapse and call 911. Despite having a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order, his daughter, acting as his power of attorney, instructed paramedics to revive him when he coded in the emergency room due to respiratory failure and a heart attack. Wayne was unconscious for about 2.5 minutes.
Wayne describes his NDE as having four non-sequential phases occurring simultaneously. The first phase involved an out-of-body experience where he felt silence, a stark contrast to his usual tinnitus. He perceived himself in a white, conscious cloud that commanded him to 'be at peace.' In this state, he relived profound emotions and memories from his life, such as sitting on his grandmother's lap or the exhilaration of sailing, experiencing them with a unified consciousness.
The second phase involved being led into an area with many celebratory beings. Wayne felt as though he was on a dais, and people were presented to him, starting with his late wife. He relived their entire 36 years of marriage in an instant, with perfect memory. This expanded to include everyone he had ever met, and even people he hadn't met but whose lives intersected with his. Communication was telepathic, characterized by complete acceptance, love, and unity, transcending any past conflicts.
The third phase felt like being 'plugged into a network,' where Wayne had a job to do. He identified with the Archangel Raphael and felt he was assisting in relaying information within a cosmic system, similar to a cell in a spinal cord. He was an active part of this larger purpose. The fourth phase coincided with his return, marked by the feeling of perspiration on his brow, signifying his re-entry into his physical body. The experience abruptly ended, and he saw his deceased Uncle Ralph, who told him, 'Don't be a chuch. Tell your story.'
Wayne awoke to a medical team, was sedated and intubated for three days, and spent a week in the ICU before rehabilitation. Upon waking, he struggled to articulate his experience to his daughter. The NDE profoundly impacted him, erasing his fear of death and leaving him completely changed. He compiled his notes and experiences into a book because of his Uncle Ralph's message. Despite having a good life, he now yearns to return to the state he experienced during his NDE, no longer fearing death, and appreciating his daughter's decision to resuscitate him.
