Summary
Highlights
A mother prepares to leave for a conference, assuring her reluctant daughter, Alex, that a babysitter will take care of her. Alex is worried, especially since her grandma is sick and can't take her.
The babysitter, Ursula, is on the phone with Brian, boasting about the wealthy family she's about to babysit for and her plan to put the little girl to bed early so he can come over to party.
Alex's mom introduces Ursula, who appears sweet and charming, immediately bonding with Alex over baking. The mom leaves, advising Ursula she has her number and that Alex has an emergency phone linked to her.
As soon as the mother leaves, Ursula's demeanor changes drastically. She becomes verbally abusive towards Alex, takes away her emergency phone, and forces her to go to her room, threatening her if she doesn't obey.
Ursula's friend Brian arrives, and they begin to party. When Alex tries to use the emergency phone to call her mom, Ursula intercepts it. Ursula then manipulates the phone call, making Alex's mom believe Alex is acting out and tried to run away.
Ursula forces Alex into a small storage room, locking her in for the night despite Alex's pleas. She tells Alex to get comfortable, insinuating she'll be staying there until her mother returns.
The next morning, Ursula offers to teach Alex how to swim if Alex promises not to tell her mother what happened. Alex, desperate, agrees and goes to change into her bathing suit.
At the pool, Alex questions Ursula's anger. Ursula, annoyed, coaxes Alex into the pool. While Alex checks the water temperature, Ursula shoves Alex's head underwater, attempting to drown her. Suddenly, Alex's mother appears, revealing she's a police officer and witnessed the attempted murder. Ursula is arrested.
