Accessing Your Trading Portfolio

To begin, visit www.stockmarketgame.org, then enter your student ID and password to access your trading portfolio. Navigate to the main trading page by hovering over 'Trade' and selecting 'Enter a Trade'. You'll then choose 'Stocks' as the asset type.

Understanding the Trade Screen Options
00:00:29

The trade screen offers options to buy, sell, short sell, and short cover. You can search for stocks using their ticker symbol or company name. 'Market' order type means you'll get the current price if trading during market hours with a real-time trade type, or the closing price for end-of-day trades. The minimum number of shares to buy is 10. 'Clear values' reset inputs, and 'Preview Trade' proceeds with the transaction.

Example: Buying Apple Stock
00:01:14

To buy 10 shares of Apple stock, select 'Buy', enter the ticker symbol, choose 'Market' for real-time trade type, and input 10 for shares. Click 'Preview Trade' to see an updated order preview screen which shows estimated cost and buying power before and after the trade. Confirm the trade by entering your password and clicking 'Confirm Trade'.

Trade Confirmation and Status
00:02:09

After confirming, you'll see a trade order confirmation. Real-time trades entered during market hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST) will appear in 'Transaction Notes'. Trades made outside market hours or with an end-of-day trade type will immediately show up in 'Pending Orders'.

Selling a Stock
00:02:46

To sell a stock, follow the same steps as buying, but select 'Sell' instead of 'Buy'. Ensure you hold the stock you wish to sell by checking your account holdings before entering the trade.
